An Out of this World Snack – Bacon Weave Tacos

Tacos are a traditional Mexican food dish and are one of the most loved foods in the United States. Because of its popularity, a National Taco day has been made. It is celebrated every fourth of October annually. In Mexico where it has originated, Dia del Taco or the Day of Taco is celebrated every year on the 21st of March.

The word taco means “sandwich” in English. The tortilla which is made from wheat or corn flour is used to wrap or fold around a filling that is commonly made of spiced proteins such as beef, pork or fish.

Taco is considered having countless variations that can be created using traditional meats. Many new variations have been spreading replacing the traditional meat with a seafood, chicken, beans, cheese, and eggs.

There was a unique variation of Taco where the tortilla is not made from corn or wheat bread but with weaved slices of bacon. Bacon is typically made from the pork belly or from back cuts which have less fat than the belly. It is mostly served for breakfast but with this unique food mashup, it will be used as a wrap for the beef filling. Bacon taco shell recipe is shared below.

Bacon Weave Tacos

Ingredients:

  • 1-pound bacon
  • 1-pound beef, ground
  • 1 large tomato
  • Guacamole
  • 1 large onion
  • Cheese
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Procedure:

For Bacon Taco:

  1. Create a square bacon weave.
  2. Place it in a baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 400-degree Fahrenheit.
  3. Take it out of the oven. Allow it to cool.
  4. Place a cereal bowl upside down on top of the bacon weave.
  5. Trace and cut it by using a knife.
  6. Place it over taco shell mold.
  7. Bake again for 20 minutes at 425-degree Fahrenheit.

Tip:

If taco shell mold is not available, insert the bacon weave in between of the steels in a grilling rack and bake.

If grilling rack is also not available, although not advisable, hung the bacon in kabob stick balancing it in between a pint glasses and place it in the oven.

For Beef Stuffing:

  1. Place the beef in a pan.
  2. Season the beef with salt and pepper.
  3. Add 2/3 cup water.
  4. Cook over low heat for 4 hours.

Tip:

Beef really takes time to cook. A slow cooker can also be used to cook the beef.

For Toppings:

  1. Mince the tomato and dice the onion.
  2. Shred the cheese.

Optional:

Many toppings can be added in tacos like salsa, cilantro, avocado, and lettuce.

Preparation:

  1. Take out the taco from the oven. Let it cool for about 5 minutes.
  2. Put guacamole.
  3. Stuff in the beef.
  4. Top with tomato, onion, and cheese.

It takes around 10 minutes to weave, 20 minutes to prepare, and 4 hours to cook the beef. Altogether, it takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes if you will bake the taco while cooking the beef.

This is a really delicious snack but be careful with eating bacon weave tacos because it is high in cholesterol. Eat with control.

This is a simple recipe but takes a lot of time especially in cooking the beef. But the time is worth it for this very appealing food. This bacon weave taco will be an absolutely great treat to be made on National Taco Day or maybe, every day.
